Ever since the morning sickness kicks in almost a month ago, I stopped cooking. Because I cannot stand the smell in the kitchen, esp the fridge, to the extend that I have to held my breath every time I open the fridge. I can assure you that it is not because of any spoiled food in the fridge, and I have also just recently changed the fridge dedoriser. Unfortunately for Mr M, he has to eat out almost every single meal because of this. Oh, and morning sickness has no morning-ness about it. It strikes THROUGHOUT the day.... arghhhhhhh

oh dear, just the thought of it is enough to make me nausesous......

Pride and Prejudice

Yesterday they were showing the latest cinema adaptation of the novel, starring Keira Knightley, on TV. I watched for about 15 mins and decided to change channel. This is one of my favourite novels of all time, and I have watched the BBC adaptation for over 10 times I think, and the scenes are so deeply etched in my head that I could not accept anyone other than Colin Firth to be Mr Darcy, and anyone other than Jennifer Ehle to be Lizzy. I watched it so many times that I can tell the next line before it is said.... I like it so much that I wanted to have same hair-do and dress as Lizzy when she's in the ball at Netherfield. (which, by the way, didn't come true in the end as I would need to spend a lot more time to get the hair done, and I couldn't find any dress that has an 19th century feel to it)

This reminds me of the TV drama North and South, starring Patrick Swayze and James Read. The drama was aired on Pearl when I was, perhaps, 7? We taped it and I was watching it over and over again, to the extend that I could memorise the lines (again...) I wonder it this is the reason why Clare likes the name Ashley so much?? Anyway I'll check out if I can find the DVD from HMV for some nostalgic moments.

everyone's writing blogs... so i guess it's time for me for another new post!

tropical depresssion Pabuk (who was once a tropical cyclone Pabuk, pictured left, when it was approaching Hong Kong) has now gone passed us. not that i matters much to me, since i don't work anymore, but there is still some disappointments to see its decline to a mere depression. at least we have slight relief from the recent heat wave so it's not totally 'useless'.

speaking of typhoons, i remembered one of the topics in the my HKCEE chinese language writing paper was something like 'when typhoon hits home'. of course i didn't choose this topic, but i can't remember which one i've chosen. i only remember the first sentence of my composition, which was 'Last sunday I went shopping with my mom.' This was a classic way to start a composition for 8-year-olds... but still I scored better than my sister Kay, who just got her results yesterday, with 7As but an F for chinese writing! HA!

Revival

As I think the 粉掌 cannot hold on until my mom's return from Beijing, Dave and I went to buy 2 packs of soil and 'replanted' the 粉掌. We cut out a lot of the dried and dying leaves, and the plant does look at lot healthier now. I suspect that I am not watering it enough, as I have been very cautious on the amount of water I give to the plant. I have been warned that more plants died from being water too much than from being deprived of water, so I always thought they don't need so much afterall... perhaps I was wrong. But the good thing is we managed to save and since then I have been a lot more generous with the water.

yesterday mr m did make an effort to leave work early and we had dinner at tai ping koon in causeway bay. the dinner included ox tongue spagetti in tomato sauce, fried beef with ho fun in 'swiss' sauce and roast pigeon! we finished dinner in about 30 mins, and our stomach began to bloat about an hour later... pity that we couldn't eat the famous souffle, as i cannot eat raw/semi-raw eggs at the moment.

today marks my 29th year here on planet Earth. i decided to celebrate the day by going to the bakery to buy bread and newspaper at 7-11 at 8:30am in the morning. most certainly do not feel like cooking at all, but if mr m could not leave work early today (by early i mean 7pm) then dinner would be wun ton noodles at the nearby 茶餐廳.

in an attempt to do my part to make the air cleaner and fresher, i bought 2 potted plants (鐵樹 and 粉掌)about a month ago. both are perfectly healthy-looking and radiant plants. here are what they are like after a month under my care:

well evidently the 粉掌 is dying but i don't know how to save it until my mom comes back from beijing at the end of the month. hopefully it can hang on till then.... again this proves that beautiful things does not and cannot last. i'll stick with plants with just leaves or needles next time.

well the last post was made at the start of the Year of the Dog, and today, it is the third last day of the Year. Preparation for the Year of the Pig well underway - we had daffodils (水仙), and fai chung on our front door. and we did make an effort to clean the flat this past weekend, whether or not you can actually noticed the difference is another thing....

anyway i am hoping that i will be able to update this blog regularly from now on (unfortunately there won't be too many photo uploads until i have saved enough money to buy a new camera....)

it's been almost 4 months since our last post... wonder if anyone actually noticed...

today is the last day of the chinese new year holidays. time went by so fast that i have already lost track of the day of the week already! i've had an eventful day - took my niece to the park and took some would-have-been-better photos (that i don't even bother putting them up on the web), partnered my sister in 真三國無雙 4 for about 4 hours (and we finally managed to finished 太史慈傳, after more than 10 attempts.... and finally been web browsing on thailand packages till now (almost 3am)

now it is likely that we'll be going to hua hin evason hideaway. http://www.sixsenses.com/hideaway-huahin/index.php it is not cheap (well, cheaper if you compare to going to some tiny hotels in tokyo) but looks very nice indeed...

Yuen Long

we went to yuen long to visit a relative of mine. ashley, my 1-1/2-year-old niece, had a great time running around the place and playing with the puppy. david and i took the opportunity to familiarise ourselves with our cameras before our london trip. i wonder if i should get a film camera afterall, but maybe it is my poor skills that make the photos not looking as nice as i would like them to be.... :(

we have finally decided to go to london in december. flying on 10th to be exact. i'll leave on the 19th and dave will stay till the 22nd. pretty excited about the trip, apart from the fact that our tickets cost us a Canon 20D, or almost a Nikon D200...

we have started planning on where we would do or go during our fairly short stay - all the main tourist sites in london is a must, because i always drove by them but never really set foot on any of them. we'll be part of the crowds, with our camera across our necks, information guides in our hands. ha!

食蟹之逸聞

唔講唔知，以嗜食見稱中國人古時礙於蟹恐怖長相─利螯，長爪和厚甲都不敢捉蟹來食，促成「蟹民」橫行無忌，完全唔怕人。你估係咪呢個原因導致蟹養成打橫行習慣呢？

這個不敢捉蟹食情況被浙江一次山洪暴發完全扭轉過來。話說當時群蟹被沖到田上，農夫礙於群蟹橫行均不敢接近。在無計可施之下，一個怒火沖天的農夫嘗試以熱水潑向群蟹，希望可把它們趕走。呢一潑使群蟹由青色化為滿地金黃，而且一動不動。眾農夫見狀紛上前將蟹拆骨，一股肉香由是撲鼻而來，一食之下重齒甲留香，令人萬分回味，亦由此奠定中國人食蟹的習慣。

至於大閘蟹名稱由來，話說江蘇人在陽澄湖捉蟹，知道群蟹貪光，在天黑時便一手提籠，一手提燈，群蟹便自動投降，乖乖入籠，故名。

食蟹禁忌

1. 切忌半生熟
食蟹必需注意清潔問題。年前有未煮熟大閘蟹便食，而引致肺吸蟲入侵身體，造成腸穿肺爛。所以要將蟹徹底煮熟才可進食。

2. 切忌食蟹胃
蟹的雙鰓之間有一個六角形的白色「蟹胃」極之寒涼，虛寒人士不宜。另外，但凡內臟都不應吃，因內臟積存重金屬，多吃易中毒。

3. 「柿蟹同吃，定見閻王」
蟹肉含豐富蛋白質，柿子含鞣質，同時吃造成蛋白質凝固，導致腸痙攣。

4. 切忌以啤酒送蟹
啤酒又名「鬼佬涼茶」。若以啤酒送蟹，寒上加寒，可引起肚瀉。

the idea of going to london in dec came up during dinner. so when i went home i went on the internet to check out the air ticket prices. there were special promotions for the all 3 major airlines to london a few weeks ago, but no traces of them anymore!!! darn... then i went through this week's newspaper but couldn't find the ads as well. so perhaps it is japan afterall???

we saw this at a shop in causeway bay. i will get it this weekend after checking the price is not unreasonably higher than the selling price in japan.

still planning on the trip in december. wanted to go to 黃山 but the tours available are either not the dates that i want, or the routes that i want.... so begin exploring the alternative of going to japan (again). 日光 is not bad... but winter means no flowers for me to photograph... :(

i would like to go on a short trip in december, as david has the entire month off. however it would be too late for the autumn leaves in japan, and too early for the snow.... thought we'd go to kyushu anyway but my sis was saying "you going to japn again?? can you not think of another place?" well i guess she's right - i went to that country like twice within the past 12 months already.... umm....
